Chatting with Amber Ardolino of Hamilton

Amber Ardolino has recently graced the Chicago stage in Hamilton in Chicago.  The show is Hamilton’s second production besides their one on Broadway, and is the start of many more locations to come.

As a member of the hit show, Amber is an ensemble member, but will soon be making her debut as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds!  A Pittsburgh native, she sure has made a name out of herself this past year, and recently was seen in West Side Story on tour and Rock of Ages.  I got the chance to ask Amber questions about her beginnings into musical theatre and Hamilton.

When did you first realize that you wanted to be a performer?

When I was in 8th grade. My first musical was Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat. I went to a performing arts highschool from 9th grade onward.

How long have you been dancing?

Since I was 3 years old.

What the first Broadway show you ever saw?

I watched the Cats Broadway VHS tape 3x a day.  Yes… VHS tape. I’m old 👵🏼

What’s it like being in a hit show like Hamilton?

It’s incredible. The opportunity to be in a show that changes people’s lives is not common.

Do you think Hamilton in Chicago is rather different than Hamilton on Broadway?

Yes. Each company is extremely different! The creative team let us take liberties and make the show our own version.

What do you think is a big factor to the shows success?

It’s extremely relevant to what’s going on in today’s society.  The show is also modernized musically so people of our generation can appreciate it.

You’re going to be going on as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds soon, how exciting is that?

Very excited! A bit nervous..

Hamilton has some pretty big numbers, what’s your personal favorite to perform in?

Satisfied is always a fun one. I love the big ball gowns!

If you could choose one favorite thing about being in Hamilton, what would it be?

Telling the story to an excited audience! When the audience is enthused about what you’re doing and you can transport them into another world. It’s the best…

What’s your favorite thing about living in Chicago?

The culture. It’s beautiful.

Do you find yourself inspired by your fellow cast mates?

All the time. The most talented people I have ever worked with…

Finally, Do you have any advice for any aspiring performers?

Never let anyone tell you no! Prove them wrong and go for it. You’ll never progress if you don’t take chances!

Huge thanks to Amber for doing this interview!  Be sure to see her in Hamilton Chicago when the next round of tickets become available!
